Football: Lee named TSWA Class 3A all-state
Comments 0 | Recommend 0BRYAN Andrews High School’s Corey Lee was voted to the first team on the Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 3A all-state football team, which was released Wednesday.
The 5-foot-10, 160-pound senior made 11 interceptions in 13 games for the Mustangs, who reached the Class 3A Division I quarterfinals.
Lee’s honor is his second on the first team of a Class 3A all-state team. In December, he was voted to the first team on the Associated Press all-state football team.
He also was the co-Defensive MVP on the All-District 3-3A team and was the Defensive MVP on the Odessa American’s All-Permian Basin Team.
Another District 3-3A player, Snyder running back Will Clay, shared offensive player of the year honors on the TSWA all-state team along with Gilmer running back Justin Johnson.
The 205-pound Clay rushed for 3,081 yards and 42 TDs. The 210-pound Johnson rushed for 2,171 yards and 25 TDs for the Division I state runner-up.
Palacios linebacker Aaron Buckley was the defensive player of the year. The 225-pound senior had 147 tackles.
Jerry Vance of Division I state champion Liberty Hill was coach of the year.
The TSWA all-state team includes statistics from postseason games while the AP all-state team is based on regular-season performances only.
