Girls soccer: Midland High shuts out Paschal in bi-district

ABILENE The Midland High Lady Dawgs weren't at their best necessarily Tuesday, but at least they'll have a chance to rectify the situation.

Leslie Guisinger scored off a Mills Davis assist in the 20th minute and Lauren Collyer added a goal off an assist from Elyssa Hawkins in the 31st as Midland High beat Fort Worth Paschal 2-0 in a Class 5A girls soccer bi-district playoff game at Shotwell Stadium.

"I wasn't pleased at all," Midland High head coach Kent Rivas said. "We came out sloppy the first 15 minutes and finally we settled down and got a couple of goals. Unfortunately I think the kids put it on cruise control and thought more goals were to follow, but this is the playoffs and it's win or go home and nobody wants to go home."

Paschal (13-8), however, couldn't find the net and had only a couple of real opportunities during the game.

Midland High (23-4) advanced to face Lubbock Coronado (16-7-2) in the area round of the playoffs.

The Lady Dawgs will host the game at 2 p.m. Saturday at Grande Communications Stadium.

"We'll go back to the drawing board and see if we can't finish some more on Saturday," Rivas said.
