2001: Not the best year

One led District 4-5A in rushing from the first week of the regular season to the last, while the other was among the district leaders in tackles and tackles for a loss during the same duration. Following the last games of the regular season, both were unanimously selected as first-team members of the 2001 All-District 4-5A Football Team.

Permian High School senior running back Jayson Dorman and senior linebacker T.J. Sparks each were one of five Panthers named to the first team, joining senior offensive tackle Sammy Bernal, senior punter Jarrod Robinson and junior kicker Ryan Havens.

Dorman, a second-team selection a season ago, led 4-5A with 1,214 yards and was third with 10 touchdowns and 64 total points.

Sparks, an honorable mention selection last season, led the Panthers with 107 tackles (78 solos) and 10 tackles for a loss. He also had one sack and caused one fumble.

Sixteen players from District 4-5A were named to the Class 5A All-State Team chosen by the Associated Press Editors, which was announced Friday.

Permian had four honorable mention selections (linebacker T.J. Sparks, running back Jayson Dorman, kicker Ryan Havens and punter Jarrod Robinson), while Odessa High had two (defensive lineman Reggie Miles and linebacker Dorian Gentry).
