Permian High School senior Sam Baker signed a letter of intent on Tuesday to play women's basketball at College of the Southwest, which will play its inaugural season in 2008-09.
"It's always been my dream to play at the college level," Baker said. "It's everything I've ever worked for. I've been playing since second grade.
"It's close so my parents can come watch. It's a new program starting out, so I can help fill the trophy cases and leave a legacy there."
Baker, a 5-foot-5 guard, earned second-team all-district honors this season, averaging 6.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists for the Lady Panthers. She scored a career-high 26 points on Jan. 4 against San Angelo Central.

Permian High School golfer Zach Stokes will get a chance to continue his career in his hometown after signing with Odessa College on Tuesday.
Stokes helped the Panthers to their first regional team berth since 2003 as the team finished second in the District 3-5A tournament.
Stokes finished eighth individually in district competition, shooting 316 over 72 holes to earn all-district honors.
