One is senior running back and defensive lineman Malcolm McPherson, who suffered a knee injury in the team's first summer scrimmage. .... Senior tight end and linebacker Beau Anderson, who suffered a dislocated shoulder at a scrimmage two weeks ago, won't return until next week, McClendon said. ... Playing without so many starters last week "was certainly an issue," McClendon said. "The amount of inexperience was significant." ... Even though Andrews was pounded last week, "that score is very misleading," McClendon said. "Andrews has a very good football team. (Head coach Jeff Cordell's) got them playing hard. They get in the spread and I and run power football." ... McClendon said his team will need to keep the Andrews 3-4 defense off guard by passing the ball. ... Andrews will be without starting center Kyle Coomer, the anchor of the offensive line who injured an ankle in the loss to Canyon last week. The team is still waiting to see if it's a strain or fracture, Cordell said. ... With just two returning starters from last year's team on both sides of the ball, Andrews' inexperience showed in Cordell's debut as the Andrews coach last week. "Some of the young kids who didn't have varsity experience grew up in that ball game," Cordell said. ... The team needs to work on its tackling, Cordell said, and a few Canyon scores were because Andrews didn't wrap up. ... Kicker Reid Layton tore his right quadricep (on his kicking leg) at practice last week. He probably won't kick for another four weeks, Burtch said. ... Running back Nicky Nave had 41 receiving yards and two touchdowns on his two grabs last week, and Nave is one of many running backs who also provide a receiving option. "Our offense is pretty wide open that even our running backs can be wideouts as much as they can be in the backfield," Burtch said. ... Those backs will complement receiver Aaron Thompson, who had two receiving scores last week along with 106 yards on five catches. ... Last week, Seminole passed for 351 yards and ran for 42, pretty much abandoning the run in the second half because the pass was so effective, Burtch said. ... Another bright spot was quarterback Cal Moring, who was 23-of-32 passing for 351 yards, four touchdowns and an interception. And he probably should have had five scores - "That interception was a dropped pass in the end zone," Burtch said. ... Seminole will want to get off to a quicker start, as it had just 42 offensive yards at halftime last week. .... Sweetwater runs a 4-3 defense, and they've loaded it with speed and at most of the positions, Burtch said. ... Sweetwater's offense, Burtch said, is based on the wishbone with a lot of option plays.
